About Dr Rose Lerer Cohen


Dr Rose Lerer Cohen has been carrying out family research since 1995 and has been a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists since 1996. She established Kin-search in 2007 in order to bring together the many different aspects of genealogy and research.

Her areas of research are: Eastern and Western Europe, Israel and South Africa. She maintains contact with a network of professional genealogists and experts in many countries.

Dr Lerer Cohen is situated in Jerusalem and has access to Yad Vashem, the Central Zionist Archive (CZA), the Central Archive of the History of the Jewish People (CAHJP) the American Joint Distribution Committee (AJDC) archive, and many other smaller archives in Israel, and can carry out on-site research.

Holocaust research is one of her area of expertise. She specializes in documentation from the International Red Cross Archives (ITS) in Bad Arolsen and has succeeded in locating and connecting Holocaust survivors all over the world by synthesizing the data from Holocaust archives, the pages of testimony from Yad Vashem and the documents of the ITS. She has an immense library of her own.

Dr Lerer Cohen has been involved in a number of interesting projects. She co-founded the Lithuanian Names Project which resulted in the publishing of The Holocaust in Lithuania 1941-1945 (Gefen, 2002). The Lithuanian Names Project is a partner in the creation of the Central Database of Shoah Victims’ names at Yad Vashem. She was the editor of Sharsheret Hadorot, Journal of the Israel Genealogical Society and held a fellowship at the Universityof Hull..

She graduated from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem Oral History Course and has experience in interviewing, formulating questionnaires and recording family histories. She coordinated the University of Hagen, Germany Oral History - Slave Labour Project in Lithuania and South Africa. With her interviewing experience, she will interview members of your family and record your family history.

Her PhD, titled Resilience and Achievement: The Case of Lithuanian Child Holocaust Survivors, focuses particularly on Lithuanian Holocaust survivors She has written and lectured extensively on many aspects of genealogy and family research and history.

With her research experience, she is able to carry out primary and secondary research for books and articles. Dr Lerer Cohen can assist you with writing a short article or a biography of a family member.
